Page 2 USCG on Middleton Island,  Alaska  1943-1944

This was the Main Coast Guard building which was located about half way down on the west side of the runway. It was burned down by the USAF in the Spring of 1960

This photo was taken from the north end of the island looking south on the new runway. The Coast Guard buildings can be seen on the right and the hill just beyond the buildings is where the 720th AC&W Squadron would be built some 12 or so years later.

Notice the ramp in the rear of the photo..It may have been there to launch life boats..
